Becoming a trustee
Role of Trustees
Trustees accept ultimate responsibility for directing the affairs of the charity, and ensuring that it is solvent, well-run, and delivering the stated aims of Sutton Mencap.
Trustees can generally delegate certain powers to employees, but always retain the ultimate responsibility for running the charity. All decisions by the trustees concerning Sutton Mencap are taken by all the trustees, acting collectively and as a team. However, the decisions need not be unanimous; a majority decision is sufficient.
Charity trustees are the people who form the governing body of a charity. All of our Trustees are volunteers and many of them are carers themselves.
Trustees with special roles
Sutton Mencap has four named “officers” - the Chairman, the Vice Chairman, the Treasurer, and the Secretary
Trustees as volunteers
All Sutton Mencap Trustees are volunteers and are not permitted by law to make any profit out of their association with the charity. Without Trustees, there wouldn’t be a charity, and we appreciate anyone willing to take on so much responsibility for no financial reward!
